Mr Aminu Umar, a leading maritime professional and shipowner has emerged the 7th President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, the Governing Council has announced.

 

Umar who is the Managing Director of Sea Transport Group takes over from Mr Andy Isichei whose two- term tenure as president of the Chamber came to an end early February 2023.

 

The shipowner would be working closely with Mrs Ify Akerele, as the Vice- President of the Chamber.

 

 

An official statement signed by the Director General of the Chamber, Mrs Vivian Chimezie- Azubuike reads thus;

 

“At the Governing Council Meeting of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) held on Tuesday 7th February 2023, Aminu Umar, Managing Director of Sea Transport Group) emerged as the seventh President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, alongside Ify Anazonwu- Akerele (Mrs.) as his Vice President.  This came at the end of the two- term tenure of Mr. Andy Isichei, Executive Vice Chairman of ACI Holdings.

 

“Aminu Umar, a seasoned professional in Shipping Operations and member of various ministerial committees runs a company whose interest spans Ship husbandry, Ship Management, Crew Management and energy transportation; he is also a leading indigenous ship owner and operator in Nigeria. He is definitely a square peg in a square hole.”

 

Umar is expected to pilot the affairs of the Chamber for the next two years.

 

The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping a member of the Board of the International Chamber of Shipping, hopes to ensure that Nigeria’s domestic Shipping Industry thrives commercially on the Nigerian Coastal waters and beyond.
